I'm headed to

the mysterious subcontinent of India!!

This winter I'll be on co-op with the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) in New Delhi. NUSL sends a student every quarter through PHRGE. I did a Program on Human Rights and the Global Economy co-op for my first co-op in DC, and now I'm going to India!

At HRLN the NUSL Fellow is always paired with the Reproductive Rights unit, although I'll be able to work with other units as well. What HRLN does

People have been asking what India will be like, and to be completely honest, I don't know. I'm getting a lot of my info from wikipedia. I guess I'll miss snow this winter. Hopefully Boston will get some good storms in March.

A friend of mine, Asia, was the first Fellow to go two years ago and she blogged her experience here.  I will be planning to stay with the same landlady and there is internet in the house as well as at work. I will be 9.5 hours ahead and skype and emails will be the best way to stay in touch.

I was hoping to find a clip from The Big Bang Theory where Raj talks about "the mysterious subcontinent of India" (usually as a pickup line). Instead, I found this:

Oh well. I'm still excited!

Fall lineup

Professional Responsibility (3)
The only required upper level law course, Pro Res is all about legal ethics. I got a preview of this class when I studied for the MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam) in August.

Juvenile Courts (3)
"The father of juvenile law" in Mass. and the 1st Justice of the Middlesex County Juvenile Court, Judge Jay Blitzman, teaches this class at NUSL. It's perfect for me - it focuses on delinquency, abuse, and neglect.

Family Law Litigation Practicum (3)
Part clinic, part class, we will have fake clients and guide them through a family court divorce. Taught by one of my instructors from the DV Clinic, so I'm really looking forward to it.

 International Health Law (3)
I went back and forth between Int'l Law and IHL. I'm not sure I'll  use either class after law school because I am hoping to work either with kids and/or the criminal justice system. However, I am hoping for an exciting winter co-op so this may tie in :)

Crash the System (2)
One of the attorneys I worked with at Roxbury Defenders this summer is teaching a guest lecture class where he will talk about reform and protests. People on the F/S rotation are lining up to audit this class and NUSL will let them sit in but won't give credit (boo).
